Jérôme Lavoué studied Chemical Engineering at the Institut de physique et chimie industrielle, Lyon, France, received an MSc in Environmental and Occupational Health and a PhD in Public Health, both from the Université de Montréal. He did his postdoctoral training in Occupational Exposure Assessment at the Institute for Work and Health in Lausanne, Switzerland. His research interest is in the assessment of occupational exposures for occupational epidemiology and industrial hygiene.

Research

My main research general interest is in the assessment of occupational exposures for occupational epidemiology and industrial hygiene.

I currently work on the development of a job-exposure matrix using expert ratings of occupational exposures made during several population-based case-control studies of cancer in the Montréal general area.

I am also involved in the creation of a retrospective occupational exposure databank for the province of Quebec using measurements made since the 1980s by governmental hygienists in this province.
Statistical modeling of occupational exposures using modern methods (e.g. multimodel inference) to help identifying determinants of exposures is another focus of my research, with a current project aiming at producing a portrait of solvent exposures in the Montreal area for the period 1980-1990.

Another ongoing project aims at providing the industrial hygiene community with tools to perform screening assessment of the potential of certain chemicals to pose a health risk through percutanous absorption.

Finally I am interested in the design and evaluation of performance of sampling strategies in industrial hygiene.
